Evolution of TSH Receptor Autoantibody Testing

  • Description

Autoantibodies to the thyroid stimulating hormone receptor (TSHR) in autoimmune thyroid disease will be discussed.  The focus will be on methods used to test for these autoantibodies.  Bioassays that can assess the functional activity of anti-TSHR will be presented, as will advances in anti-TSHR bioassays.

  • Target Audience

This activity is intended for clinical and scientific laboratory professionals, physician - scientists who have an interest in thyroid disease.

  • Learning Objectives

After completing the activity, the participant should be better able to:

    • Define the importance of autoantibodies to the thyroid stimulating hormone receptor.
    • Differentiate between binding assays and bioassays for anti-TSHR antibodies.
    • Recognize how anti-TSHR bioassays are performed and how they are being improved.
