Thyroid Antibody Testing: From the Bench to the Bedside

 

Description

This educational activity is designed to provide an overview of thyroid antibody testing and its relevance to the laboratory technologist. By a review of physiology and pathophysiology of autoimmune thyroid disease, the aim of this session is to provide a basic understanding of laboratory testing in a patient with autoimmune thyroid disease.

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for clinical and scientific laboratory professionals, physician - scientists who have an interest in thyroid disease.

Learning Objectives

After completing the activity, the participant should be better able to:

  • Summarize the basic fundamentals of thyroid clinical laboratory testing.
  • Describe the clinical presentation and laboratory testing of Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis and Graves’ Disease.
  • Review of real-world cases with application toward the relevance of thyroid antibody testing.
